I’ve been crafting since I was a small child, starting out at my mother’s knee with crooked embroidery and cross-stitch projects, and progressing through my life to include sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning, occasional painting, and whatever else strikes my fancy at a given time. I fall down rabbit holes and emerge with new skills and ideas all the time. My mom used to say I never stick to anything, but time and experience have taught me that this isn’t the problem – I stick to EVERYTHING, I’m just on a twenty-year rotating cycle for most things.
It’s probably not a big surprise that I use crafting to cope with stress, and it’s served me well through some really hard times. I also rely on proper medical care for my anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD, so you will never hear me suggest crafting to someone in a crisis unless they ask me for help finding a new hobby. I want to say that out loud because
- There’s no shame in getting the medical care you need to be healthy
- If you’re struggling with something, you should never be made to feel like you’re alone, or like taking meds is anything but a valid option for being healthier
- Crafting is great and it soothes my spirit, but it’s not a replacement for the right treatment and good support
This site was created to document my crafting life, my attempts to be a good activist in support of human rights and equality, and my progress navigating a stressful world by looking for the beauty in it (and by creating some when I’m having trouble finding any).
